{ Inferno.}

The view from our back window yesterday{this was taken by geoff vaz}. Saddest part of it all is it's the Ranch burning up
{We do not live at the ranch  D is the general manager for the LDS Church ranches..}
and D was in the thick of it...
We had all been up there to start with
after church yesterday we walked in and looked out the window we were having hurricane catergory 1 winds which never happens like that here that bad....
we saw smoke and D said lets go make sure that isn't the ranch burning up.....
so we drove to the ranch and what was happening was beyond anything he probably imagined or hoped ever would happen fire was racing in a serious inferno across the grass!
I have to admit I loved being involved and I guess in my next  life I'm going to be a storm chaser:)
I also loved watching D in manager mode,
I tried to keep the kids quiet and under control and
Despite the destruction, the chaos, the insanity of the force of winds pushing the fires for those three hours flying around the ranch talking with the emergency crews and watching the droves of people showing up to help was pretty incredible D kept saying "I gotta get you guys outta here"
then another 1/2 hour would go by but after three hours the kids were getting kind of scared and we had run into the previous ranch manager so I took his truck and the kids home. And he jumped in with D.
{Funny part we were so close to the fire at one point just beyond the fence D opened the door to talk to the fire fighters to tell them where to go...anyway the ashes and smoke poured in and the kids ducked to the floor saying
"get as far down as you can and cover your mouth and nose"
we learned this in school"
{I was smiling and thinking well I guess if we had a fire at home they might know what to do}
Anyway I got home the phone rang constantly..friends and family wondering what they could do or what was happening..and then
Waited out the night for what news we could and worried about everybody fighting it! D came home just after midnight for a few hours and then went back out before it was light again....
Today they will see the damage done....
WE ARE SO THANKFUL
the cattle, the horses, and the houses are all standing and survived.....because they just as easily could have gone up too....So that is a big blessing....
THANKFUL also for the many many people who showed up with equipment, brooms, water trucks, tractors and food and all the fire fighters. D said it was amazing how many people came to help and how freaky it was in the dark working, driving where they've never had vehicles on in some places, walking and brooming it out in some spots....
Thankful
On the way home we could see fires burning on the horizon and knew something else was up too....
found out when we got home that the city had fires surrounding its edges and moving fast and whole neighborhoods ready to be evacuated insane! It too was contained late last night.....
Seriously it was all a little eerie
Hurricane strength winds
and fires blazing on two horizons...
#1 I need to get good 72 hour kits ready meaning to do it forever but if you think it can't happen where you are think again
kind of what we all do isn't it....
But this is reality...
and nobody is completely prepared for disaster.....
Today they will see what path the fire damage
took of the ranch and what was destroyed he has an amazing hard working crew past and present and
many prayers were answered for the safety of all.
Not quite what we thought would be a nice quiet Sunday night.

So Its been quite the week:
Stitches for K2

and then the trials, fire & wind
this
Inferno
we call life.

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”

onto another week..hopefully slightly less eventful ....

The Tablecloth

A pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, reopened a church in suburban Brooklyn. Excitedly arriving in early October, they saw the opportunities to accomplish something good before them. When they first laid eyes upon the church, they found it to be very run down and in need of much work. They set a goal, though, to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.
They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc., and on Dec 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished. On December 19 a terrible tempest hit the area, lasting two days.
On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high. The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home. On the way he noticed a local business having a flea market type sale for charity so he stopped in.
One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center.
It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church. By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later. She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.
Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet. "Pastor," she said, "where did you get that tablecloth?" The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. To his astonishment, he found that they were. These being the initials of the woman. She had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria. The woman could hardly believe it, for the pastor told how he had just acquired the tablecloth.
The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria. When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. She was captured, sent to prison and she never saw her husband or her home again.
The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.
What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return.
One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood, continued
to sit in one of the pews and stare at the Tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to the one that his wife had made many years ago in Austria before the war and how could there be two Tablecloths so much alike?
He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety, and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home again all the 35 years in between.
The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier. He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman's apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

tears.
who says things don't happen for a reason.
Have a great sunday.

{SundayStory}

"Sometime in the eternities to come, we will see that our trials were calculated to cause us to turn to our Heavenly Father for strength and support. Any affliction or suffering we are called upon to bear may be directed to give us experience, refinement, and perfection."
--Delbert L. Stapley

  Becoming a Butterfly
Once there were students in a science class. They had a caterpillar and watched it make a cocoon. They knew it would enter the cocoon, stay inside for a while and when it came out it would be a beautiful butterfly. The caterpillar stayed inside the cocoon for months and finally, one day, it began to come out. The students watched the butterfly struggle. It was having a hard time getting out of its cocoon.

The science students felt bad and decided to help the poor little butterfly. Very carefully they took small scissors and cut the opening in the cocoon wider so it would be easy for the new butterfly to get out. They watched and waited. When the butterfly came out it tried to open its wings...it couldn't. When it tried to fly away it wasn't strong enough.

The science teacher explained to the students that butterflies struggling to get out of the cocoon helps build it's wings and make them strong. it needs to fight and work and struggle in order to be strong enough to one day fly.
Heavenly Father sent us to earth to learn and to grow.  One of the ways that we grow and learn to depend on Heavenly Father is through trials and difficulties.
In our lives sometimes bad things happen to good people.

{Me Thinks Monday...}

I love this quote. Gives us all alot to think about doesn't it.

..... where do we stand? and where are we going? what are we doing? Why does it have to be so hard sometimes to implement true charity in our lives?? are we HAPPY? some days it feels like we are getting nowhere doesn't it..
but a lot of days I look around and say holy how did I get here because everything we have gone through to get to where we are now is because of what we have been through. But its still crazy how much time is slipping by so fast and how did my kids get this big or how have I been married almost 15 years. Then I think of all the things we have done and all that we have gone through together and its exactly as it should be because of every single one of those things that has happened to us or because of circumstances beyond our control but every single one of them is for a reason and here we are today.

Things that make me happy:

-My new dishwasher and the husband who is more than handy to install and build or fix anything

- that a certain little girl randomly decided on her own that she was joining the school choir got the form and is so happy doing it. I was happy because its the first time she showed intuitive to do something she was interested in and did it all and she loves it, and I'm pretty sure a part of her is proud of herself because its something she wanted. She can be as stubborn as me :)

-that I found this pretty cake stand I've been looking for forever...and found one on amazon......an early Christmas present to me? lol
but I am sad I missed out on this $29 deal on this kitchen aide chopper so pretty isn't it though. It was in my basket and I waited to long sad:( ...oh well

my family makes me happy, and all my extended family on both sides {my family hasn't had a picture together in years so anyway its kind of big and even though we are all spread out I love the out of the blue phone calls, the little notes and the I miss you's and I was thinking of you....

-My kids around the counter talking laughing and making things together makes me happy ...I love it....It makes me so happy sometimes I just sit back and listen to them talk and think of all the things I hope they are when they grow up and that I hope they are all friends and love and care about each other no matter what stage of life....

-  true story so happiness is free we don't need lots of money, a big house, and fancy cars to be happy..... just the best things....
love, family, friends, memories,

------------------------------------------------------------
Me thinks...

1. ....people are decorating for Christmas and putting up their trees earlier this year or is that just me? I have some decor up but D thinks its ridiculously to early to do it I'm working him down so are the kids ha ha we'll see who wins
HAVE YOU GOT YOURS UP YET?

I have noticed there are more Merry Christmas signs and commercials that actually say Merry Christmas so far this early season... I really dislike the whole "happy holidays" thing like your going to step on somebodies toes really come on!

2. In our school they do something called student led conferences instead of parent teacher interviews ...{you can book an appointment} but you'd feel bad not attending this SLC....but really I ALREADY  know what my kid is doing I work on her/him, read with her, do math.... I know what they are doing I WANT TO HEAR FROM THEIR TEACHER HOW TO HELP THEM or if they need help or if they are doing good! I dislike student led conferences {that are a whole 1/2 hour long and I have to pay a babysitter cause siblings aren't aloud besides the point} why can't we go back to the way things used to be.... speaking of which
what was the point in changing the grading system
abcde
 to
12345??
when did that happen anyway?? I don't get it? Why change a good thing ..

3. Anyway I'm kind of ranting now .....
for real though last night we had "THE TALK" with K the birds and the bees one...it actually went pretty good he was a little uncomfortable for a few topics....
I feel like compared to my friends and family with kids of age that we were late, he will be 10 in a month or so, but I also feel like it needs to come from us before he hears it elsewhere.
I guess part of me didn't want to put things there that an innocent mind never thought of before...but the world we live in it needs to come from home . And it needs to be here a safe place to feel comfortable to ask anything anytime.

If you have older kids what age did you give your kids "the talk"?

Have a great week!

{SundayStory}

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for ...hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

Remembrance Day .....

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day Today
I am so thankful for those that went before us and who fight and fought for our right to be where we are...its sad to me that we don't learn from history and really our freedoms are slowly being taken from us without some of us realizing it... {think about it}
But I am so thankful to be as far as we are today and to live in the country and place that I do.
We are a blessed nation and have so much. I'm pretty sure if it was all taken from us we wouldn't know the first thing to do.
May we always remember. May our Children always remember.
More than just today.

{10 on Tuesday....}

{source pinterest}

"November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring."

-  Elizabeth Coatsworth
and  thats how it feels around here......
1. I honestly can't believe its November and I'm thinking of Christmas crazy how fast the years are flying by. I mean I'm going to have a 10 year old in a month or so I remember waiting by the phone for weeks at work waiting for him to come...now 10 years later and three more kids hard to wrap my head around my blessings and all the trials along with them but I wouldn't trade it for anything.....
2. November is national Adoption Month and around here thats a lot to celebrate  since we are a family because of it and its something that is a constant in our lives. We have been blessed to meet love and extend our family beyond any means we thought and its a beautiful thing. Each of our children are so blessed to know how much each of their birth mothers and fathers loved them, they know there names they know how they came to be here and they look at pictures and K has read his beautiful letter from his Birth mother another beautiful moment.
They know how very loved they are in so so many ways.

3. So its no secret I love to blog, I love face book and I am time restricted to..... addicted to pinterest so many great finds...most of all
I love the money saving back to basics kind of finds, the DIY projects and free printables amazing then stuff like
 like these links:

a] Recipe for Cream of Something Soup meaning you make the mix yourself and use it in all your usual cream of chicken recipes whatever try and let me know but all the reviews I've read have been awesome I'm going to try it...{Lynn c.you'll love this one I thought of you:)
b] homemade teeth whiting paste found here among a thousand other things to do with baking soda.....

c] or tips like put a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water...and it won't boil over I've tried it and it works...weird

.....but I also love how Facebook provides an instant response or a call to help others =service ....for example people needing somebody to pick up a package for them or a ride somewhere,or ideas....
or messages sent received, meetings planned,  parties organized, help for others in all different ways..... its amazing really....yes its addicting but its all in balance it does simplify a lot of life and helping each other...and being aware of the good things that are going on....but like all things it can be good or bad.....I'm choosing the good of it:)
4. Seriously 20? Check out this link.... wow eh..... all the power to them but really I'd rather it be them that have 20 then some detriments to society....love these duggers rules..  they have great kids and a good home and if they want 20 or 200 its nobodies business or reason for judgment they have a good home, money to provide and happy well behaved kids!
Here are 10 tips the Duggars say can help any parents with one to 19 children:
1. Praise your children 10 times more than you get on to them.
2. Model the character and responses you want your children to develop.

3. Don't raise your voice or say put-down words, stay under control.

4. Humbly apologize when you blow it.

5. Lead by example, look for opportunities to serve those around you.

6. Turn off the TV and spend time as a family building special memories.

7. Be involved in your children's activities and go to church together.

8. Have heart to heart talks with each child on a regular basis.

9. Encourage your children to make wise choices and to choose wise friends.

10. Post your own house guidelines.

5.  Why are cheerios the easiest thing to feed a baby or toddler but the hardest thing to scrape off the highchair.... yuck! really I'm not the only one with a caked on disgusting high chair right???
6. I get a new dishwasher finally tomorrow with a 5 year warranty so it had better work that long at least:)
7. even boys can have fun tea parties ...they had gotten into L's tea party set and brought it up for lunch and served each other I thought it was to cute not to take a picture...{someday M will hate that I posted this ha ha}and yes some of my kids love ketchup on their mac and cheese...

 8.
Me thinks...
to much sometimes...
Ever feel like life is a little upside down sometimes?
Where your thinking {to much} gets carried away?
where you wonder to much about what the future holds for these
special little kids we are raising?
how our kids will grow up?
what will they have to go through?
what will be their trials, hardships, joys, sorrows, happiness?
am I doing a good enough or better then good enough job to help them get through the tough times and to make our home a sanctuary where they know they are always loved and welcome no matter what.
or even if they'll still want you when they get older?
if they'll make correct choices?
if we can answer the many questions they might have?
Adoption is so so wonderful but so hard sometimes there are just some questions
you can't answer, there are some issues that you just don't know anything about?
there are some people that are so insensitive to adoption and have no clue and say the rudest things. just let it roll off. i know. i do.
its just hard sometimes
so many questions
so few answers. a lot of the time.
you just hope your doing a good job now to make it through the hard times to come
and really we can only do the best we know how...
9.and then the perfect quote to go with the above but that goes with so many things in life sometimes we make things into something bigger than they should be or that aren't even there....
via pinterest
10. So for randomness sake what is your favorite Christmas Tradition? We have lots but we always look forward to the 25 books countdown the kids love it!
Have a GREAT week...

{ "THE" inevitable Halloween post + }

Can I just say yeah Halloween is over {sorry whit} but all I want to do is decorate for Christmas now why can't we do that for two months my fall stuff is up for two months and seriously Christmas is my favorite time of the year....Anyway this is THE inevitable Halloween post you know the day after post that just has to happen well here's our version......
The beginning prep... THE pumpkin carving night
D was in texas all week so ours happened the night before halloween
and K2 wanted nothing more then to go back to bed after his nap so he was only out for a minute ANYWAY....
THE MIDDLE: okay then comes the costumes and school parties, Halloween parades freaky costumes, the 20 minute blizzard in the morning just as the kids were to get on the bus.....only one made the bus and then we had to "weather proof K's costume I put to much time into that one for it to get wet so it got packing taped:)

and probably the cutest "bum/vagabond?" ever:) he kept his hat on, wore the sign and learned that going door to door for candy was fun:) then he got tired and was done but he is pretty protective of "his" candy I think its called "MINE"................ he is so dang cute!!

....and then there is D and ME we went to a party last weekend and WE dressed up I know big right..... I was a little excited about this one
then is the END trick or treating excuse my I'm tired and done with this day face and messy sticking up hair :) .... the kids came home to an early Halloween dinner ....mummy dogs from our best bites

and other gross things ha ha........So I'd say it was a good day the kids had fun and thats what counts they got way to much candy and had way to much fun!! oh and with dad ....

SO another year over and done....The kids loved their costumes and had a fun day so it was a success I'd say. Here's to next year...
 ----------------------------------------------------
2. The plus part : OTHER THINGS:
We are done football what an awesome experience for K he loved it and learned so much was fun to watch him grow throughout it and become more confident and learn the game...now if only I could actually figure out what is going on lol:)
 3. M
One day M decided he wanted to wear these to school and if you know M he is pretty independent and when he wants something he is very very persistent so I let him what is the worst that can happen his teacher takes it away whatever not worth the fight what a kid he makes us laugh and makes us mad all in the same minute but we couldn't love him more!!
-----------------------------------------------------

 4. A new recipe to try..... my kids loved it 2 days in a row when all kids and D eat something its a keeper...

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup shredded carrots

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 4 cups cubed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups cubed Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  2. Stir in basil and parsley. Add broth and potatoes. Bring to a boil, then simmer until potatoes are tender, about 10-12 minutes.
  3. Melt the remainder of butter and stir in flour. Add the milk, stirring until smooth.
  4. Gradually add milk mixture to the soup, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Stir in cheese. When cheese is melted, add sour cream and heat through. Do not boil.
----------------------------------------------------
and my favorite quote of the week
"Don't look at what he/she is not,
look at what he/she is."
something to think about for some reason it really made me stop and think about it how true is that. Sometimes we look at people for what they aren't sometimes in our own families.... instead of looking at who they really are and loving that about them. We are all different and we need to be more loving and accepting of what is ......instead of trying to change or mold someone the way we think they "should" or  shouldn't be.
5. and I thought this was awesome...
6. I have an evil neighbor {not really}  who gave out fresh homemade doughnuts last night to her friends and .... in my binging last night I ate one of her doughnuts  {yes this is a confession thats a big thing for me{after my like 15 year stretch of not eating one since I worked in a bakery} and it was probably the best thing I've eaten in a long time like melt in your mouth perfection...so good...
......until I went to yoga and almost puked three times from all the halloween junk and the doughnut..... holy!... sick.
7. I can't even believe its November the years are flying by and I can't stand it babies grow up, moments become memories and time goes by faster and faster....
8. oops this turned into a really really long post...
9. Saturday without going into detail, I got to do something I've never done before, meet people I've never met, do something that was beyond my comfort zone by myself and witness something that made me feel so deeply I couldn't stop crying for an hour..
I realized that things happen for a reason not one we understand.... I learned that there are always two paths in the road and which one we choose to take leads us on our paths in life. That choices are the biggest thing we have in this life because choices lead to the consequences no matter what they are there are always consequences good or bad.
I learned I already knew this but deeper that our
Heavenly Father loves us no matter what
that each of us has tests and trials and that the same scripture that has deep meaning to me personally, may just have deep meaning  for you too but for completely different reasons. But they are there for us.
Does that make sense?
I learned that the ATONEMENT IS VERY REAL.
I learned that sometimes the mistakes and pain we cause others because of our choices, the ones that result in life altering change and the ones that affect others all around us so deeply and beyond words is more than the mind can handle sometimes ..... there aren't words to describe those feelings that come from that.
That sometimes the words I love you ,or the tears streaming down your face or the tight hug mean more then anything else that could be said.
And essentially thats what the atonement is too.

10. I'm done. Have a great week.
A great life and make someones day :)
