I wonder how many people, like me, have a reputation for being snobby (people would say they thought I was snobby until they met me and just realized I was shy) when all we're doing is freezing up in an uncomfortable situation. Why is it such a crime to be quiet? Why do people seem to think that silence is grounds for being hurt, or offended, and think that you should say something, anything, even when you have nothing to say?
Just a thought.

Whew! You hit such a big one there girlie. I can SO relate to you in a BIG way. I like you even more now : D People say the same thing about me. It use to really hurts sometimes. Wish I didn't HAVE to prove myself all the time. But I have learned a lot since then...... It takes all kinds of people to make the world go around, eh? If some of us weren't the silent, quiet, shy type....then who would the non-stop talkers be able to talk to? Right? LOL!
I am really liking this blog thing. I can say things when I feel the need to say things and not have someone jump right back at me for saying it or NOT saying it. Know what I mean? So far so good. I am getting braver with "talking" . Christal don't change. Stay the way you are. You are SO likeable and Just let others take the time to get to know you. It's their job. It's who you are.....real. Honest. True. Dont' be something you are not. Don't try to change something that wouldn't be you otherwise. WELL! I certainly just did a WHOLE lot of talkin' for someone who doesn't.
Thanks so much-- glad to know there are others like me out there. SO true about who would the non stop talkers be able to talk to I have a couple of aunts like that and plenty of others! You are so good at writing and knowing what to say. Thank you!
Okay, I just sent a whole long comment and then the computer ate it. GRRRRRRR!
Anyway, I just said that after my family had lived in North Dakota for a long while, I was talking to a good friend and she told me that when we first moved in she thought that my sister and I were SOOOO stuck-up. I asked her why in the world she thought that, and she said, "Cause you never talked to anyone except each other." I was like, DUH--cause we didn't KNOW anyone yet!
But I've also been on the other side of the incorrect judgement passing. When we first moved here, a couple invited us for dinner, and after talking that evening I left thinking they were THE MOST BIZARRE people in the world. I didn't even try to get to know them after that, but gradually through different things, I did come to know them better, and found that they were really laid-back, fun, knowledgable (though still pretty strange ;) ) people, and I really enjoyed their company.
The moral of the story is, it just takes time to get to know a person. Brett and I didn't like each other at all when we first knew each other.
And cool story about the Fruit loops, when our family was youg (my brothers and sisters) we were always so excited to unwrap our sugary cereal on Christmas morning and eat it for breakfast. Ah-the joys of being poor. :)
Ok, so I've thought a lot about this over the years...you're dead on, if you're quiet people think that you're stuck up...This is what I've decided...If you're pretty and quiet people think you're stuck up...but if you're not so good looking and quiet people just think that you're shy or insecure. We really judge people more harshly who are good looking or succesful. Really, there can be snotty ugly/poor people! Ok, you may or may not agree with me. But this is my conclusion. SO take it as a compliment, you must be one of those pretty "quiet" people. I personally have ALWAYS thought that you were friendly and outgoing AND beautiful! Love your blog keep it up!
I am so like this!! I am content being a "people watcher" but in turn I am mistaken for thinking that I am better than everyone. I'm not! I;m just shy!
Amanda: Exactly how I am I love watching people and am just shy too! I'm so glad there are people who feel just like me!
I was considered a snob too because I was shy! Definately don't judge a book by it's cover!
On the flip side of the coin, I am NOT shy! (to put it lightly!) But, people tend to take that as I can handle anything, having no insecurities at all. I find that sometimes people say too much, thinking its okay to make fun of me about whatever, because I'll just laugh it off. Which I do, on the outside, but I have been hurt by people judging me.
So, I guess we all need to work on being more understanding with everyone! After all, we have the same Father=)
