{Weekend...Me Thinks}

Me Thinks
Funerals have a way of putting life into perspective, to make you evaluate your life...
where you've been,
what your doing
and where your going...
Some people leave before their time, but some leave after years of pain years after the love of their lives leaves this earth and years after forgetting all memories and loved ones surrounding them.
Grandma Dayley will be so missed but I'm pretty sure the reunion in the next life was a beautiful one reunited with grandpa and her parents.. she left a legacy 93 years strong, she was beautiful inside and out. The closest thing to a saint much like my mother in law {her daughter.}
The tears that really fell where those during the funeral remembering the times spent with her, the memories made,  the times she had 43 things to eat and just kept feeding you and always had treats no matter what time of day.
There were many memories and stories we had never heard before that strengthen my testimony of being an example and by the numbers that showed up to the funeral it is clear how many lives she touched.
Including each one of ours.
She had 7 children, somewhere close to a 100 grandchildren and a 101 great grandchild plus those coming.... amazing!
The representation of each family was awesome.
Just thinking of what one person can do in this earthly life and the impact one person has is to improve a generation or derail it is ..... beyond comprehension if we had any idea how our actions, examples, choices and words effect others we'd change or at least try harder.
I realized two things this weekend that the most important things in this life are the Gospel of Jesus Christ knowing there is a plan, knowing that grandma and all others who pass into the next life keep living and working and we will see them again.
How blessed are we to know and have this knowledge.
The other is FAMILY
{this is those that were able to attend from ours this weekend}

it really is the biggest blessing we have in this life we are born to a family and we leave hopefully with family surrounding us and greeted on the other side by those that have gone before us. If we knew how important these two things really were we would work so much harder developing and strengthen our relationships within each of our families and with our associations with all others.
I firmly believe and know that what we do here greatly determines were we end up after this life.
and What a blessing that is.
We have free agency but we WILL be accountable for every action we take, the way we live our lives especially when we KNOW better. WE have been given a gift and what good is it if we don't use it. Now is the time. Before its to late.
....And this me thinks is what a 22 hour drive to and from Burley/Oakley Idaho and a funeral will do to you.
Evaluate where you stand.
Where is it taking you??

So some highlights of the weekend
First thanks so much to my mom who came and watched my kids and took time out of her busy schedule we so appreciate it! And to my sister and friends who helped out too thank you so much!!
-So Friday night we went to dinner with a lot of D's extended family and aunts and uncles met some new cousin's of D's I hadn't met before and some we hadn't seen in a long time..came back went swimming well the boys did...
anyway about 1 am K started puking first all over the bed....
let me tell you it is not fun to have a sick child in a hotel at 1 am I didn't even know where to start I'm saying to D tell me what to do tell me what to do...so I called down to get new bedding, new towels we ran out of clothes for him he wore D's shirt to bed my exercise pants and he continued to puke like 9 times more till 6 in the morning the poor child!!!
The whole time I was like what are we going to do with him for the funeral the whole day...by 6 he stopped puking and slept for a big by 8 he was getting a little color back but we didn't dare feed him anything...
he was so starving by the time the funeral was done{thats why in the family picture he still looks pale and no energy whatsoever! I had to sneak into the kitchen where the ladies were preparing for the luncheon and steal a bun to tide him over till we got back from the cemetery. So the poor boy hadn't eaten for so long he was pretty weak.
But it was a beautiful funeral and graveside prayer.
That night everyone took off pretty much but we got to spend time at the homestead and visit after the family dinner, by then we were hungry so we did a little shopping and went to dinner at a little Mexican place.... We were good to go then... hang out at our hotel the boys all went swimming again and I crashed since I didn't sleep the night before!
The drive home was entertaining with D, K and two of my brother in laws and my 9 year old nephew....crazy times but good roads....and happy kids when we got home.
and that was our weekend.....
......
......“What are we doing with today?” If we live only for tomorrow, we’ll eventually have a lot of empty yesterdays. Have we been guilty of declaring, “I’ve been thinking about making some course corrections in my life. I plan to take the first step—tomorrow”? With such thinking, tomorrow is forever. Such tomorrows rarely come unless we do something about them today.

Have a great week....

What a beautiful memorial to D's Grandma! Well said, and well written.

Poor K!!! Sounds like he got major food poisoning somewhere along the way. I kind of chuckled when I first saw the picture because he looked like it was the last place he wanted to be.......and then I read your account of that horrible night. Sheesh! I feel so bad for him.....and for you. Wow. Lack of sleep or what. You are amazing though...you don't look it at all.

Anyway.....thanks for another great Me Thinks. I know I always say that, but seriously girl......love how you make ME think. ; D

Welcome back!

MAN--poor you and K and K2 for hand foot and mouth ---SOOOOOO sad!!!
It's nice when funerals are mostly happy- for people who have led good lives and you get to visit with their wonderful posterity.
And also, thanks for the comment telling me that D got a kick out of our 'surprise' story--because I enjoy every time I hear someone else enjoyed it. :)
Have a great day!

So true Christal! I have been feeling the same way - 1)So grateful to know that death is not the end, that Grandma continues on and is happier now and is with Grandpa, and that we will be with her again, 2) the difference one person can make, and what are we each doing to be that difference, to carry the work of God forward, to be the kind of person we really want to be. This weekend has definitely put things in perspective and makes me want to try that much harder to carry on the legacy of our ancestors!

It was so good to see some pictures from the funeral weekend. I only wish I was in them. Thank you for the link to Trevor's post and for your wonderful post. I'm so glad you had time to get to know grandma before she passed. I wish Hakon could have had more time to know her too. Thanks for all the great reminders in this post! I can't wait to listen to the funeral recording.
