I was proud of myself for letting him get dirty and not care. He had so much fun! Some moms walked by and looked at him like where is his mother or who's kid is playing in the mud I took his good shirt off and let him roll!!!

Random thoughts this week...
Love this quote from our bulletin again coming up with some great quotes lately
its so for us now...
" We live in a world that is filled with options. If we are not careful, we will find every minute jammed with social events, classes, exercise time, book clubs, scrapbooking, church callings, music, sports, the Internet, and our favorite TV shows....Families need unstructured time when relationships can deepen and real parenting can take place. Take time to listen, to laugh, and to play together."
-M Russell Ballard
I love this quote because we do get so so busy doing everything else sometimes we don't slow down to laugh, listen and play. I for one probably need to spend less time on here and more time doing the others I try to do it when they are napping or at night. But I'm Working on it!

Thinking about NUMBER 4
Do you ever wonder if you were done having kids why you would keep thinking about it and wanting more wouldn't you feel like you were done if you were done?
Hard when you have no control over it eh?
Does that make sense?
--------------------------------
Kindergarten
Say you had a little princess who was just turning 5
2 weeks before the kindergarten deadline would you
a) put her in kindergarten like normal and onto grade one when its time or...
b) put her in kindergarten for two years
{so she isn't the very youngest in her grade. Here's my thinking of when she is old enough to date or drive either before everyone or pretty much a year after every one else }
She is a smart girl learns just fine but her attention span is that of a four year old gets distracted easily all that but I know as she gets older it just gets easier with development..
We are trying to figure out what to do??
Any thoughts? What have you done with Kutoff kids? were you the oldest or youngest of your grade??
-----------------------
Have a great week ....
HAPPINESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION
{so true eh are we happy? or do we spend our time wishing we were?
what are we doing now to be happy now?}

Fun weekend. About the kindergartener. I was gonna hold my daughter back and she went into a depression. I finally said FINE!!!!
She was the youngest in her class but ended up being a valdictorian!!! So it is a hard decision, but what does she think? If she doesn't care I might hold her back, but if it destroys her life (like mine, it was horrible) then I would send her and see how she does. Good luck!
What a beautiful pre-wedding, never heard of that before haha. I loved the colors and pics of your family. The picture of Mason splashing in the mud is awesome!
Hanna is a December baby. I put her in kindergarten last fall, she was 4 going on 5. I thought if she wasn't ready for grade 1 afterwards, we would switch teachers for a change of scenery and let her do kindergarten twice. Free as compared to preschool fees. She's done just fine and is ready for grade 1, her teacher is so proud of her and often forgets she's the youngest in the class. Although, to look at her you can tell, she's pretty tiny compared to the other kids. But...Brett is also a December baby and I will definitely be holding him back until he is 5 going on 6. It's just different with boys. And this way he'll graduate from High School and start preparing immediately for his mission. It totally depends on your kid, do they have separation issues, are they able to follow routines and deal with change, do they want to go, are they academically ready? Lots to think about.
Hey Christal,
About Kindergarten. We're in the same situation. Amy turns 5 two weeks after the cut-off date. We're going to put her in Kindergarten anyways. I think she's ready. I'm hoping the short attention span will improve as the school year goes.
I had a late birthday too, but I wasn't held back, and I'm glad, because it meant at church, I was in the same class as the kids I went to school with that were my age. (If that makes any sense.)
You have been busy! Masen looks so grown up in that pic of him in the orange shirt - your kids are too cute! I was a Sept birthday kid and went to K anyways 'cause supposedly I was ready (and I'm really glad I was in the grade I was in)! But you'll know if she's ready, especailly if you're putting her in K now - after a year of it you'll for sure know. Every kid's different!
Looks like a beautiful wedding! And hope your feet are feeling better. As for the baby #4 thoughts...it's hard to know what is in store. I remember when we were trying to decide if we should put our papers in again...cause of course we wanted more kids after Ryker, but for some reason it just didn't feel right. And now I know why. It's really hard when you have no control...but remember that Heavenly Father is the one in control and he will guide you in whatever direction is right. You guys have a beautiful family and I wish you all the best with whatever happens.
:)
p.s. as for the kindergarten issue my sister was close to the deadline and my parents had decided not to put her in. Half way through they decided that it would be better for her to be in the same grade as the other kids her age at church even if she would be one of the younger ones. For her it turned out great (especially since there weren't too many church kids in the younger grade). I think for girls it's okay to be younger in your grade...(did that make sense...what I was trying to say??) Good luck with your decision!
Man oh man! You guys SURE have been busy with weddings this year. LOVE LOVE LOVE the color coordination of everyone. So cool!
The pics of the grandkids doing crazy things and crying is hilarious!! Whatever IS Kolten doing, eh? Praying that the photo session might be over soon? LOL!
So fun!
I am SO sorry to hear about your feet! That sounds SO painful! Hope you are healing well.
I totally understand where you are coming from about number 4. I remember always asking every mother I knew...."when do you know?" I just couldn't keep picturing myself just keeping on having babies, and yet, I didn't want to stop when the Lord had other plans. I just wanted to know SO bad what the "magic number" was for our family. And everyone just kept telling me "You'll know." What does THAT mean?!!!
Well....when number 6 came along....that's when I knew. There IS no explanation for it. You JUST know. So Christal....if you are still asking...I would dare say that there is STILL someone yet to come to your little family. That's just my opinion. Probably 2 cents worth. But it's there. : D
And as for the kindergarten thing...
We have TWO kids that were in that situation. We went for it. Put them in kindergarten.....and thought....let's just see how they will do and when the end of the year comes....we'll decide whether to put them in grade one or not. There was nothing to lose. So we did. They both (one female and one male) did GREAT! They were SO ready for grade one. And they have been fine ALL through school. No problems at all. But it may be different for everyone....so it might be a good thing to try it for one year and see where it goes. Sounds like she is SO ready for kindergarten.
P.S. Good on you for letting Mason get dirty!!! I SO can relate to you about how hard it is to let them do that. I eventually packed "play" clothes with the kids for times such as that, and I just let them AT it. It was good for them and it was eventually good for me. I could finally "relax" a little. My grandma wanted to give me an award for finally being able to do that. LOL!
my comment will be the shortest.
I liked this post.
My opinion on the "holding kids back" thing? I have one, but I don't think it's valid because I don't have any kids that age. I'll get back to you in 2 years when Brody goes to Kindergarten!
I'm proud of you letting Masen play in the mud. That's one of those "good mom" things. He had a great time. Plus, he'll love looking at the pictures in the future!
(maybe my comment's not the shortest anymore?!?! YES.)
those pics are sooo cute with everybody and those colors. i love weddings. i have been know to do random drive bys of the temple on saturday mornings to catch a glimpse of the happiness. that quote is elder ballard is so great. even when though may be filling our lives with good things, sometimes it is just too full.
and for lauren. i'm an october birthday and was the old one and it was fun to be the first to do all the driving dating stuff. i say put her in now and decide later. then if she isn't ready to move on at the end of the year, just hold her back. derek is a sept birthday and that's what his mom did.
I am mad at you. I wish you would have let me help you with something on Friday, anything. Hope your feet are feeling better.
Will you learn to accept help and ask for it already! Easy for me to say, but I don't accept or ask for help either so I can't be too mad!
My sis was a Sept birthday. She did one year of Kindergarten and the teachers thought she should stay back. My mom said it was the best decision she ever made to hold her back. And she loved being the oldest, graduated with a gold braid too. But who knows. I guess if they will let her try it out and then stay back if needed why not just see.
Finn is Sept. 4th and I think I want to holding him back. But I guess we will see. Good lick deciding!
What a beautiful wedding! THe colors so fun!
That's a tough decision on the Kindergarten issue. Sounds like you got some great advice though. Love that Lynn... how does she find the time to do all that she does?!
Hope your feet are healing! That is no fun! I used to work for a Podiatrist, I think anything to do with the foot is always SO painful because of all the nerves we have there!
Oh, and Christal, I ALWAYS am wondering the same thing as you when it comes to kids... HOW DO YOU KNOW?! I find comfort in Lynn's answer. I HOPE there are more out there for you and me! ;)
Love your quotes too, I find myself pushing the important things aside too much lately... got to get back to the basics! :) Thanks for the reminder.
Hope you have a great week... I heard this quote yesterday and thought it was pretty funny, especially with the way our weather has been! It said: "Wherever you go, bring your own sunshine!" ha-ha!
Ah, the lovely Kindergarten issue. My mum went through it with me and I seem to have condemned all three children to it as well. I was the second youngest in my graduating class and it was never an issue for me. My mum only put her foot down when my first principal wanted to skip me up a grade when I was in grade 2, I would have been only 16 when I graduated had my mum gone for that plan. But all in all, it's up to you, Darren and possibly Lauren and what you feel is best for her. I guess I agree the most with Lindsay's advice, put her in now and decide later on what to do from there.
Loved the colours for the wedding, they look so cute. There are so many things I wish I could go back and do over with my own wedding, but the most important parts I would never change. I love the man I married and love that we married each other in the house of the Lord.
Thank you so much for the Elder Ballard quote and for all of your posts and how much they inspire me. You are such a remarkable woman and I am so blessed to know you.
I was one of the youngest in my grade and was 17 when I graduated. I liked it and didn't have any problems learning or getting good grades. Good luck deciding! - Jessica
Christal...your pictures are so cute & your kids are just darling.
As for when you "know" you are done...you just know. Your heart is at peace and you look forward to the next chapter of your life. I just knew that there was 1 more after Carson although I was trying to convince myself that I was happy with 2 boys. Then Grace came along and I knew she needed to be in our family. Now that she is here I am totally content with the 3 kids I have and know there are no more little spirits that need to come to our home. Like others have said...when you know you will KNOW.
As far as holding L back...I was the youngest in my grade and it TOTALLY sucked! I was a December baby and being the LAST to do everthing was NOT fun. I would never put my child through that. Academically I did fine, but being the last to drive, date ect was torture. Carson is a December baby too and he is doing 2 years of pre-school. He wont know the difference and I think he will only benifit from being one of the oldest insted of the youngest. Anyway that is just my opinion. It is much easier to hold them back now than wish you had later.
Christal, I loved this post, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, I really look forward to your ME THINKS...love love LOVE the quote you used from Elder Ballard as well, it couldn't be more true. Way to go letting Masen play in the mud, sometimes I find it so hard to let kids be kids....great work on accomplishing that with Masen, you are a great mom, don't ever forget that. Have a happy week.
