Today is almost over and its been a long crazy day I think there might be a full moon cause my kids were off the wall. I may or may not have been too! Actually we did have a lot of fun today too we didn't have to go anywhere so that was nice! We had a nice quiet weekend did some halloween fun mummy pizza's and homemade Slurpee's {found here} which tasted pretty dang close to the real thing and the kids loved them, then we watched a movie together. We watched bedtime stories it was pretty funny not all appropriate for kids but good {Disney isn't like it used to be u know growing up... Sunday nights 6 pm, popcorn and dishes during the commercials at least that's how we did it!} Anyway here are some pics...
My baby is working the legs ahh he's growing up to quick!!
This little beauty did an awesome job on her line for the primary presentation sunday she did it perfectly, then did the biggest smile in my direction from the podium everybody laughed cause she was so happy and proud of herself it was so cute. We were so proud of them both the majority of kids didn't have there's memorized but I was very proud that both of mine did.
L is loving Kindergarten always comes home with new songs rhymes and stories she wants to read so bad.
She spends alot of time pretending and looking at the pictures she is growing up alot already!!
A little happy about his halloween dinner and dress up night he was complaining that we don't' do enough halloween stuff { I admit its not my favorite holiday but whatever....so we got all the old halloween costumes out and they played with those dressing up on everything and anything, then dinner and a movie it was fun night.
AND TOTALLY RANDOM}}}a little story this is old red
this truck saw us through our dating years, our early married years, college, university, jobs....
D got it when he got home from his mission,
now its a tinker truck {meaning a Saturday project for a guy..a Loud bombing around town or farm truck..good times with this truck. its a good truck but its time to say goodbye..
so she is for sale $1200..... anybody???
come on..... I know you want it!!
----------------------------------------
Me thinks
We need to hug our kids a little tighter
teach them a little more
discipline a a little better
follow through more
do more together as a family
know where are kids are
who they are talking to, "hanging out" with
where they are going
we need to....
get rid of the distractions
we need to be families
do more together, pray more together, eat together
and
make our homes a lot more of a sanctuary, where they want to be.
I learned a few things this week in a couple of meetings I attended that left me sick to my stomach, a little discouraged and disturbed at the attacks on the family and especially on our children starting at very young ages.
It is becoming a increasingly harder task to keep our children and our families wholesome, and protected from whats out there.
Kids thinking they are better then everybody else, the bullying that is going on
just because of the way you look or because you wore the wrong shirt to school because why
you are chubby or have brown eyes or whatever it is
where do they learn these attitudes
at home.
EVERY CHILD IS A CHILD OF GOD and deserves to be treated as just that.
What gives one the right to think they are better than somebody else?? It makes me livid to see other kids mean to each other. It ruins children. It ruins our future.
I think that the abuse of cell phones and texting can ruin our youth some are constantly on the phone talking, spreading gossip and other horrible things we didn't even think about when we were in school.

{not saying everybody or all the time just that its real and it happens daily...an awareness issue mostly}
Do you know who is texting your child? or vice versa?
Do you know who is texting your child? or vice versa?
if your in bed and they have a phone/computer/tv in their room?
doing and hearing and seeing who knows what?
of course not.
I heard some horrible things about this very thing this week that made me never want to let my kids have a cell phone.
I don't even have one probably the only one I know, but I don't need one most of the time sometimes it would come in handy that's for sure.
I don't text. Never have. weird I know.

{ Not saying its evil or bad at all just saying when its used and abused for malicious things and time wasting}
It makes me sad what lies and rumors get started over and through things like texting, facebook etc whether half true or not.... that ruin people. Its horrible. Its mean.
I mean Don't get me wrong there is good and bad to all things. I personally love fb because I have found old roommates, old friends I haven't seen in years and I love catching up.
I kind of feel like its ruining the way things used to be. Using up teens and adults time. Its changing the way youth and people in general think they need it like a drug...all the time.
Things are severely out of control.
Its sickening and horribly sad.
There are not enough parents now these days doing a parents job there are to many "friends"/ parent/ child relationships. We need more old fashioned parenting in my opinion, there are so many problems with the words "oh there just kids" we can't even afford to say that even once cause what it used to mean

is totally different today then it was yesterday....
look around" oh there just kids" ---

"there just kids"--- killed a few friends, somebodies daughter, somebodies son...
--- from driving to fast, from drugs, from drinking....

there is a lack of respect in today's youth it makes me sad to watch.
There are real problems.
Destroying today's youth, today's young adults, today's adults..........
out of control problems and unless
we do our job right, unless we fight for what we know is right

how can we expect anything to change??
It's scary. It's hard.
But something needs to change and its starts in the Home.
It starts with us.

Awesome Post Christal!
I totally agree with you. These modern conveniences do have their righteous purpose and place ( I have a cell phone. My kids do not until they are adults of their own. I do not have facebook. My kids do once they are adults. And then they aren't even all that interested in it, cause they haven't been so desensitized to the garbage that's on there, that once they are there..... they see all the "drama" and don't want to bother going on facebook......know what I mean?)
anyway.......they do have a good purpose, and not all are abusing them, but there sure are a good plenty who are. It's Sooo sad to see.
I think I know what you are talking about when it comes to phones or computers in teens' rooms. I've heard the damage that it has done. I am SOoo grateful that I was one of those mean moms who stuck by her old fashioned rules. Nothing in the bedrooms. It scares me to think "What if I hadn't".
Anyway.......great post!
Cute kids! Our sacrament presentation is This coming Sunday. IT will be the very last time that any of our kids will be in one.. I am SOooo sad. IT feels strange.
Our car just died. We had to get another one. (I just posted.) Too bad I didn't know about the truck sooner. Heck the kids could just all fit in the back, right? LOL!
Have a good week Christal!
WHAT?!?!?!? You are selling the truck??? Oh no! hahaha
Thanks for the slurpee link! I also don't have a cell. Josh has one that he takes to school and we have for driving, but that's it. I agree with the no computer in the rooms. Scary!
Christal - I love reading your blog! I live in Montana and my kids LOVE it when we come to Raymond and they get to have slurpees. When I tell them I have a link for homemade slurpees, they are going to be sooo excited.
Great post!
Well said Christal. Things like bullying stress me out. Cause you just can't protect your kids from it and you can't control how other parents parent. But I guess that's the answer right there, I can't control it. So I guess I should just focus on making sure my kids aren't part of the problem.
Lauren was so cute on Sunday!
I didn't even get to see you at church, I was so sad.
I better get to see you Wednesday morning!
Going to have to try those recipes! Thanks!! I agree 100% with what you said. I HATE texting, while I do have a cell, and no landline, I feel like texting is so impersonal. I'm just old fashioned, but I too worry for my kids, and for the challenges they will face. You are right, it is our responsiblity to teach our kids what is acceptable and what is not.
I have a cell phone. I think I've used it twice - maybe 3 times.
I don't text, but it's mainly because I don't know how. Thank goodness for ignorance!
Great thinking for today. I think that too much of anything is bad. Even if it's good things. We have to balance ourselves and what we spend our time doing.
See you Wednesday....
once again...I love reading your blog-I love you! I too have been shocked lately by how wicked our world really is and how young it affects children. We can never be too cautious or concerned about children. Your kids are great...must have been so sweet to have Lauren smile at you after her memorized part! so sweet.
well this really is a good post. last week i was in costco and asked a worker if there was a payphone there, the guy looked at me like i just asked if mexico was across the street. we do have a cell phone that derek usually carries, he always leaves it home for me when i'm going to leth or travelling and i always forget to take it. so i do know the few places where you can find a phone, or you just have to look around costco for a while and you'll see people you know and you can borrow theirs, that's what i did!
also, i know this is getting lengthy, but i said a talk on service in church on sunday and my favorite part (yes, my fav part of my own talk) was how when we give service we should just give of ourselves without any thought of return. but this society these days esp. the youth have a 'what's in it for me attitude.' very selfish.
This is so good. I get so sad when I hear about bullying. I don't know if you read my post about the 100 dresses, but when Nicole was in 3rd grade we moved to my home ward. She was persicuted for 5 years. It was the hardest thing ever. We finally moved. I know it changed her personality. It was a life altering experience. I know that she tries to get past it, but it is always there. Any way.....great post as always! Love you
Cristal,
I love your blog...you are thinking about so many of the same things I am and I am sure other Moms are. So much to worry about and so much we can do here at home to help protect our children.
Thank you for your thoughtful posts!!
First of all...that Taylor Swift song always makes me cry! Isn't it the sweetest thing you've ever heard??
It IS hard raising kids in today's world, but you are doing an awesome job, Christal! God is going to honor your efforts to raise your kids to know Him and love Him!
it scares me to raise children right now, but also makes me feel more determined to make sure we do our very best at doing just that rasing our kids. it's a tough world, a very tough world. some of the things that happen make me so sick too.
the change does start in the home. what a huge responsiblity we have as parents.
all things in moderation. it's nice to have the things we have, but we have to watch how we use our time. that is satan's best tool. he likes us to waste our time. (i have good days and bad days of how i use my time)
love that you posted D's truck, i still can't convince R to part with his, I told him we need one we all can fit in. it hasn't worked yet. oh well. i get a lot of things i want i guess he can keep something he wants and loves.
I full heartedly agree with your thoughts. I thikn even the little kids are starting to be a lot more disrespectful to their elders. I think kids are becoming a techie society and it's not healthy. How are you suppose to deal with real life pressures and stresses if you've never really talked to another human being because all you do is text?
Thank you - I'm not the only non texter! We've always shared a cell phone, and I actually just got my first very own (mostly for emergencies and handyness) and my DAD just taught ME how to text. Scary.
And the problems today - it IS scary. Why does my six year old want a cell phone?? Not gonna happen ever. I guess it's what they see - and those stupid things ARE everywhere... Frustrating.
I need a slurpee.
