Ever read something that jumps out at you?
or you felt the same or gone through what your reading about or watching and thought that's exactly how it is??
today I got the newest ENSIGN issue and was flipping though it and came to an article entitled
"Faith and Infertility"
so naturally I read it, of course it brought tears and was kind of personal I even "know" a couple in the article we've talked through email/face booked before on adoption issues.
I realized {long ago} and more every year that sometimes we think nobody knows how we feel or nobody really gets it ...unless your there or feel a touch of what others go through in your own trials whatever they are...
a few things jumped out at me were these....
{I'd link to the article but its not up yet...}
Some of the article felt like I could have written it from first five year feelings to now..I know there are a lot out there going through it whether its the first year or 15th, more than we know not everybody feels the need to share the pain and sometimes that takes time to be able to.
But my biggest thing is that we aren't ever alone there are those that feel the same no matter what it is.
For us its infertility the 10% of population with the cause unknown kind.
{for all those who have wondered over the years there's your answer .....would be easier if the unknown had a name but it is what it is. nothing wrong with either of us....in that sense anyway lol}
{for all those who have wondered over the years there's your answer .....would be easier if the unknown had a name but it is what it is. nothing wrong with either of us....in that sense anyway lol}
Anyway some of this article that jumped out at me were
"In our church where the family is celebrated as the fundamental unit of society, not having children can be especially difficult challenge.
{totally felt like that in the first five years}
"God does not leave His children alone in their trials. "Never give up,"...."There is always Hope. Heavenly Father always has something in store for us. We have found that over and over. {I couldn't agree more}
"I felt lost for a long time. I felt I had no purpose. That's the ultimate goal isn't it, to get married and have a family?.... I felt broken, like I wasn't a real woman...."
{many times still do a lot of the time}
{many times still do a lot of the time}
"I remember wondering how something that was so important in life could be denied me, My feelings of hurt ......
"Many people facing infertility look for a reason behind the struggle and sometimes blame themselves. Such thoughts and feelings
can sting even more when others make well intended but hurtful comments, often laced with misguided beliefs."
Hearing new mothers say things like " God trusted me enough to bless me with this baby." I can understand why they say that. Its a fair statement. But in my situation without a child I couldn't help but think, "God doesn't trust me." {I remember feeling like that so many times, every time a baby blessing happened and so many times...} "I felt so left out. Why were all these other women getting to experience pregnancy? I had tried to live my life worthily and do things I knew were correct. So why wasn't it happening for me?"
Love this next part...
" When someone has an ailment or an illness and they are healed as a result of a blessing, there faith is being strengthened. But for those of us who aren't healed but continue in faith, their faith is being perfected. the first is a faith-promoting experience. the second is faith-perfecting.
{never thought of it like that}
"I couldn't change the infertility, but I could progress in other areas of my life......I finally realized that infertility wasn't a punishment. I was my refiner's fire."-angie belnap
Love this because I came to this same conclusion:
" It helped me realize amid a lot of unknowns that I was really blessed to have a husband who is so good to me, who loves me, and who was willing to work through this together,......It didn't mean that we got rid of the ups and downs. It didn't mean that there weren't times that were scary. But we've learned so much and grown so much closer because of what we've been through."
-------------------------------
jumped right out....
love it when that happens. I hope this helps somebody else too....
just had to pass it along....read it when it comes...
Have a great day!

I don't know what to say other than this: I love you! So much. There hasn't been a day since I first met you and D (and K) that I haven't been grateful for you. I don't really understand what you've gone through, since I'm on the other side of the equation, but I do know that I trust you and D more than I've trusted any other people in my life. *Big hugs*
i read that article today as well. definitely hits a tender spot in any who have experienced it, or who continue to experience it.
i also love that song, a lot!! great post, christal. and i'm sorry that you have had to endure so long in such a difficult trial. but the gains far out weight the losses. you are very blessed and you help many out there...just as that article is going to do for all those LDS couples who inevitably feel isolated, alone and broken while they face their refiners fire.
I love you. Can't imagine life without you. You are such a great example and you uplift me daily.
I'm sending jellybelly thoughts your way!
I can honestly say I don't know what infertility is like. I've never sat in the roller coaster seat of infertility. But having infertility within our family, I can say I've sat in the seat next to it and witnessed the emotions of that roller coaster ride. It's on my mind always. I too read that article in the Ensign and loved it.
One thing that we may all be able to relate to.... is that wonderful feeling of understanding and affirmation put into words by someone else -- as you put it......."nobody really gets it ...unless your there or feel a touch of what others go through in your own trials whatever they are..."
Hugs to you Christal!! Thanks for always sharing your thoughts so willingly and thus helping so many others. There are many who can relate to what you speak of.
I was so excited when I saw the Ensign article too! Great thoughts and right on for all of us in the world if Inf. Sometimes it's still hard to remember that I'm not alone and that there are others out there who know exactly how I feel too. Thanks for the reminder Christal! ♥
Love this! So good! Thank you.
I feel your pain, and I hope it is lessened in any way God sees fit. You were witness to my own struggles, and thank you for the help that it was to have someone like you who understood. I don't know if unexplained infertility makes it harder, but it seemed to make me less sure of what my best move would be, which I'm not very good at handling... I like to have a plan, and the open-endedness of it made that more tricky. It seems, though, that you have followed through on a very good - even fruitful - plan.
For what it's worth, we had started down the adoption road when we found out we were pregnant, and I often find myself mourning the loss of being a part of that exceptionally unique miracle. That was very unexpected, but made me appreciate the amazing blessing that adoption truly is.
Can't wait to read the article!!!
Thankyou THankyou Thankyou!!! I am suppose to be studying right now but I took a break and I am SOOO glad I did. I don't know if you know (you may have figured it out from my blog) but my husband is not active right now in the gospel. We were sealed in the temple 7 years ago and shortly after he decided to back away. It has been a huge, HUGE trial that I have been enduring for a long time, most of the time alone and in silence. I have been at a point the last few months when I have said "When is it going to be enough??? Please, PLEASE, can I just have a break for just ONE moment." Ugh...I am literally sobbing right now...that quote..the one about Faith...even though you were talking about infertility (and you know I've been there done that whole issue), it REALLY hit me that this is my "illness/ailment" right now. Right now this is what I NEED to go through, even though it is excruciatingly painful at times my faith and testimony NEED this. Thankyou, you have NO IDEA how many times your words have been the answer to my desperate prayers. Ugh...now how am I going to study? lol Thankyou Christal, you are a WONDERFUL person that is incredibly brave to share SUCH a personal trial that you are going through. Hugs.
I want to know who died and made you so smart?? I have been through the ward splits a few times-(guess what that rhymes with!heheh) Trust me when I say that if you go at it with a good attitude it's ALWAYS worth it. Having said that it's also important to "grieve" so have at it! People will step up and surprise you, and you will surprise yourself!
I never went through infertility but I have watched others and I can imagine how frustrating it is. I have however sat in a car that I couldn't get out of for 2 hours with 8 women who talked about nothing but their missionaries and I had to bite my tongue so hard not to scream at them to have a little sensitivity for H sake! It's like you are so left out of the club and it hurts. You need to know you help others! Be happy!
Thank you. That is all I have the strength to say right now.
I had to come over to say that I left a comment to enter to win a DownEast Basics dress RIGHT after yours! Ha ha! (I never win those, dog gone it!)
I read that article too the day I got the ensign and was in tears. It brought back so many memories of years of struggles. I often felt alone too and had a really hard time talking to people about infertility. It was hard to deal with since you grow up thinking "I'll get married and have kids!" and that just didn't happen. Infertility definitely taught me to have faith in Heavenly Father's plan for me and to stop worrying about my own plan. His plan was better and brought blessings that I could never have imagined. How thankful I am now for that trial in my life. It definitely wasn't easy and still has a special spot in my heart, but it helped me to grow and develop in areas that I really needed to. :)
I read that article the other night. It's so good. Even tho it's been a few years since our struggle with infertility and our adventures in adoption and IVF, etc, etc, I still feel that wrenching heartache when I remember those hard years, or know someone is struggling with it now. It's a hard burden to bear. Our lesson in Relief Society yesterday was on adversity and how it makes us stronger, but also more compassionate and loving towards others. So many life's lessons we are here to learn huh! Thank you for still finding and sharing joy with all of us. You're amazing! Much love to you Christal!
You are such an example and a strength to so many, christal.
Our experience with this was only short lived - a little over a year, but I still had some of the same feelings and wondering at times. This experience has made me so much more sensitive and empathetic towards others and their situations and I am grateful for it. I can now look back and see the blessings that has come from it.
