Our weekend was pretty packed but we got a lot done painting wise. Kolten had a birthday party sat morn so he loved that, Lauren got to go with her aunt and cousin to the movie bolt 3d and out to BK to eat and play she was so excited and had so much fun! Thanks DJ!! Then we went to a fun pirate swim party Saturday night the kids had a blast! It was a fun night.

Can I just say my kids woke up at 7:15 {not 5:15 or 6:15 7:15!!!! yeah for time change!!! This way anyway fall back might be back to the same problem for now I'm happy they slept that long!

Friday night we watched Australia - SO GOOD really long movie I actually thought it was ending about five times but was so glad it keep going such a good movie! We really liked it anyway covers lots of issues.
So I got this email a few days ago from my mom and it got me thinking of my grandma. I always remember going to her house and she had an apron on always cooking for grandpa meals like we make for supper were his lunch, the good old days, I thought about how she carried things in from the garden in her apron and she always had a big hug for us, she also canned in that apron and made pies and goodies for us and I'm sure dried a few tears and wiped a few grubby faces!
Sometimes it would be so nice to go back to the old days when we were little helping grandma in the kitchen
who was always wearing her apron.
I'd thought I'd share it with you for ME thinks. This describes my grandma perfectly!
The History of APRONS
I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears..From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven..
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Or it can be a good history lesson for those that have no idea how the apron played a part in our lives. REMEMBER:Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.
Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron .....but Love !!
Sometimes I find it sad how many rules and laws there are that just frustrate me cause we are all here still right?? We made it through childhood didn't we pretty sure we did? We grew up sleeping in the back of the van on trips among other things, just seems like life was easier back then when you didn't think about all these things that "could" happen.
{Not saying the laws and rules are bad or not for our safety.}
But I think growing up life was just easier back then. Slower paced. Good old fashioned fun.WE learned lesson by experience not watching it on TV we experienced it. We lived it.
I like my kids to watch movies like we used to watch like where the red fern grows or old yeller, or little house on the prairie things like that. So they never lose the connection to how things used to be. Or building forts outside learning to milk a cow and walking up hill both ways all good life lessons to learn.
When life was much simpler, less complicated. less frighting and scary,
I want an apron and all the lfe lessons that go with it.

Busy Busy Busy! Looks like a REALLY busy but fun weekend! Thanks for the pics.
I LOVED that movie too. IT was so good. I love ones that have huge emotional roller coaster rides in it, and then always end on a good note.
Your me thinks got me thinking. My grandma never did have an apron. I do remember her always carrying a piece of cloth around to do those things with though. I other the other hand DO wear an apron...more than she did. LOL!

I love the apron thing. I've seen it before, and I loved reading it again. My mom and grandma always had an apron on, and I should because I ruin all of my shirts with little grease spots. Fun to think back, so many memories. You are so fun and I am grateful that I found your blog...... I do learn lots from you! You are awesome.

Aprons! I started an obsession with aprons a few months ago.
I love cooking and cleaning in them. And then if someone comes to the door and I am wearing it I look like I am doing something very important - when really I am just lazy!

Well, I for one was TICKED about the stupid time change---if we'd had early church, I would have been late. Growing up in AZ, I never even knew what daylight savings time WAS. But I will admit it's nice to see the sun for a bit longer. I guess that's the point.
Loved the apron thing. The basement is looking great. Sorry you guys are getting the cold badly too, it was -27 up here today, not enjoyable.

as soon as you get your basement finished it is going to get so nice out and the kids aren't even going to play in it until next winter...so hurry and finish it!! haha. and you know i love aprons, always busy doing something if you've got that apron on!

yeah so not my grandmas apron I remember my grandmas apron pretty threadbare used up and a nice yellow or brown 70's 80's look haha! Good point though. Its a cute apron though eh! And Lindsay totally true expect there is nothing but mud out there right now until we get it landscaped and fenced! And I love yours and Whitney's theory on the apron smart girls you are!

So exciting for your basement. I'm sure you can't wait for it to be finished! I just love your blog. You always have such great things, it's so fun to read. I've been thinking that we need aprons around our house, I want to make some for my kids too. Thinking of my grandma and her cooking brings back such great childhood memories. Nothing ever tastes as good as something cooked by grandma. Love it!
