It is kind of a dreary day today but at least the wind isn't shaking my house.
Thankful for that.
SO I'll take rain over wind.
Sometimes being thankful is what gets us through each week finding the small things improving or trying to improve on the big things...

Toddler creed
If I want it, it's mine.
If I give it to you and change my mind later, it's mine.
If I take it away from you, it's mine.
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
If it's mine, it will never belong to anybody else, no matter what.
If we are building something together, all the pieces are mine.
If it looks just like mine, it's mine.

This one made me think about how I act and react and what I'm teaching my children through my example....Sometimes we don't think of the far reaching effects of what we do that shape our children into what they will become....
by Dorothy Law Neite
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy.
If a child learns to feel shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement he learns confidence
If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
he learns to find love in the world.
I am so very thankful for all my children and to be a mother especially with mothers day coming up it didn't used to be my favorite holiday for about five years but now it makes me think a lot more and appreciate all we have to get to where we are today.
Some days are just really hard {but nobody said it would be easy right} aren't they no matter how old they are.
I just pray I can be the kind of mother that my children will always be proud of and take the good and learn from it.
Cause none of us are perfect. Maybe I should just speak for myself actually.
Any suggestions or ideas that have help in your terrible two woes? I know there are some of you who feel the same way?? Anybody?

LIFE It's all in our ATTITUDE...
it's what we make it...
Attitude is an important part of the foundation upon which we build a productive life. A good attitude produces good results, a fair attitude poor results, a poor attitude poor results. We each shape our own life, and the shape of it is determined largely by our attitude.

My child is the only one in nursery that doesn't sit and eat snacks, that runs and doesn't participate. I say this about Mr. M...enjoy his ENERGY! He's just little. Don't think you are doing anything wrong, yer not! He's just more energetic. Just be glad he's not the kid in nursery that has the snotty nose, is in a corner and doesn't communicate with anyone and even a glance in his direction sends him crying!
So funny how they are so different and you can't use the same techniques on them. I have 3 and they are SOOOOOO different. It gets better. Before you know it they are grown. I love you stuff on Attitude. Having a really bad day myself. Got some more bad news today. Anyway, your blog always lifts me. Thanks
I wish I had words of wisdom. We are finally finding things that work with our two year old.(who is not potty trained either and isn't close) It is so true that how we act is how they act. I freak out, Madi freaks out. I stay come, amazingly she stays somewhat calm (not all the time). Masen is so full of energy and life. I think it's a good thing.(i guess he is not pulling my curtains down)haha!! I don't think anything is wrong that he just wants to be on the move and listen. Honestly if I could get away with it I wouldn't sit still through a lot of things either. One piece of advice I got was from Kathleen. We cannot label our kids. They are at an age where they are learning and developing. So to say they are stubborn, wild, or whatever else all the time, they probaly will be that. SO I have tried to make an effort to not Label Madi into being something. She is Madi and is learning about this whole life thing. Whenever I ask my mom what to do about things she says I don't know I never had a Madi.
I wish there was an answer. Don't feel like you need to apologize for the things he does all the time. Maybe just let people know he's three and hes learning. I think you do a wonderful job with your kids. You teach them so many great things, it takes some a little longer to remember! =)
Good thing Masen is so adorable!!! I laughed because you wrote that stuff at the first, I'm thinking how hard it would be, then I see his picture and I couldn't help but smile!!
(I also realize it's easy for us all to say it's all good. Everyone wants their kids to be respectful and obedient. it is hard to know where the line is, if i become inspired I will let you know) Just know you are a really good mom, you have been a good example to me in the things you do)
I would strongly reccomend the book "how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk". They have it at the parent link center. Just ask Mary-Rose or Nancy. They both have a copy. It is a really really good book and it build on each priciple and gives you assignments for each chapter...plus it has examples and a Q&A at the end of each chapter.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with M. Maybe he needs more attention or discipline than the other 2.
I think we have the same child. I love this post. It made me just take a deep breath and be grateful that there's someone else in this world going through the same things!!!
I like what Kristyn said about not labeling. I need to learn from that. But if you find the secret to these crazy kiddos do share!
A few months ago I thought Roman was slowly getting better, but it was all a trick. He is getting worse as he moves further into 3 years! Maybe it's because he has been around Masen more... HA HA!
One day I will love the energy he has. That's what I tell myself. Until them I just try and find better ways to channel it. We need spring to come so we can just let them run themselves into the ground playing outside.
Christal I just love you! The Toddler creed cracked me up! Good luck with your little sweetheart. And so funny Lauren's comment about her brothers in the bathroom. I seriously am sitting here laughing. Oh the joys of parenthood. You are wonderful!
have you ever read any of the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary? My 9 yr old has been reading them in school. I read them when I was his age, but it's been fun to read them again with him. It's very interesting to see things from her perspective. She seems to get in trouble a lot from "innocently" doing things. She comes across as abnoxious to the adults in her life, but they are really things that weren't really her fault. Or things that she thought was a good idea. For example, she cracks a raw egg on her head at school. But what really happened was that she takes hard boiled eggs for lunch, but this one day she grabbed a raw egg by accident. At lunch she decides to crack the egg on her head as a way to peel it and then discovers that it wasn't hard boiled... or she thinks her mother doesn't love her as much as her sister because of the different types of attention her sister gets... Tonight as we were reading it made me really think that I need to look at my kids and the things they do or the way they act from their perspective.
sorry this was such a long comment!
Thank Heavens he didn't come in the form of twins or triplets, eh? LOL! He is just Mr. Precious all on his own.
I use to pray for twins or triplets. Then I think I could of written a thankful thursday every week on the joys of my Father in Heaven for NOT answering that prayer of mine. Ha!
Oh Christal. Sometimes venting is the ONLY thing that gets us through the terrible twos. My kids..every single ONE of them...... have their own personalities and they all came with their own agendas. And sadly not one came with a manual or book or list of things to do. Sometimes we just have to figure out what is best for THAT child. What will work for one does NOT work for another. And one will have his or her's own time schedule for potty training. Trust me! I know! : D
And then when you finally get this stage figured out...then it's on to figuring out their needs in their teenage years. *sigh* : D
Hang in there! You are an awesome mom! How do I know this?? Cause you even give two minutes to CARE and blog about it! You rock!
I like what Mindi said, I'd rather have a social, energetic, rambunctious kid than a shy one who cowers in the corner and whimpers for Mom.
I don't really have any advice for you, just know that I completely understand. My kid is the one the neighbors call "the screamer", the one who can't be told what to do, the one who runs away the second I turn my head, etc. etc. LOL. Once you get your backyard and fence up, send M outside lots haha. Then your neighbors will have a screamer on their hands too.
JK, you are an awesome mom, just keep doing what you're doing.
Being a mom is so challenging sometimes, isn't it??? But, you just have to keep hanging in there and know that you are doing an AWESOME job!! You feel like pulling your hair out some days, but "this too shall pass"!
Lots of love to you on Mother's Day, Christal!! :)
Hey girl hang in there with the M man....I KNOW what you are going through, every single word you said I can relate, my H man is the very same way. Patience is so hard with kiddos like this. I find the harder I push him the harder he pushes back. Be creative in your discipline , the only thing that seems to work is taking away H's stuffed puppy that he loves ! Hang in there girl, you are a GREAT mom and you are trying that is all you can do or expect from yourself.
EVERYONE I found the ANSWER!!! Listen to this, you have your child sit on your lap for an hour. 1 HOUR no less, and while doing that you do not speak to them or anything, you just read your scriptures and make them sit there. if we do that all our worries will be gone and we will have the BEST children. Reverent, obedient,(and probably major therapy bills I'm sure in the future.) (this was an answer to our discussion on reverence during sacrament meeting, from an older lady, apparently there is a book at the church book store or something).
I think it only works if you seriously drug you child, or knock them out. WHAT!! I can't even sit for an hour and read my scriptures.
Sorry you had a hard day. Good thing there's (hopefully) always tomorrow. That's such a hard age to go through. As they become older and exert their independence they want to push every boundary to see what they can get away with! Just be consistent and try to do it with a smile!!!!! Sooooooo much easier said than done I know. You're an awesome mommy though. Good luck!!
xoxo
